Obviously I'm going to be terrible about updating this. I just commented to a post in dramione. Someone asking for post hogwarts D/Hr fics. I have a slew that I love...but I just gave 4 or 5, cause typing in all of those links is exhausting. All the coding makes my fingers hurt. What I'd really like to do is make a list on here, and I keep telling myself that I'm going to do that. But I'm too busy reading.

I've been reading a few of the stories here and there that are coming out of the dmhg_exchange. I really like quite a few of them. But some of them are just awful. It makes me wonder why some of these people sign up for an exchange when it's clear that they have no business writing their name, much less anything that someone is going to want to read for entertainment. I'm not being mean. Really. I mean, there is a reason that I READ fanfiction and don't write it. I can't write to save my life. All of these ideas dance in my head, but it's impossible for me to get them down on paper in a way that makes a good story. So I don't try. And maybe these people are just more goal oriented then I am, and they are convinced that if they keep trying they will get better. But. Oh My Stars! Some of them just suck.

So. I think I'm going to try and come up with a list, coded for LJ, to post so that I can point people to a good list of recs. We'll see how far I get on that.

Speaking as a writer who sucked in the beginning of her fic(I won't deny it - after six or so years not writing anything, a re-breaking in period was necessary), I can only tell you that some of the authors you're mentioning will get better.

Most won't.

I agree with you on the 'not signing up for exchanges if you're not a solid author yet' front. If you want to write, great, but know your limitations: post at fanfiction.net where there are several writers just like you, get a beta, etc.

That said, I'm a tremendous hypocrite. The only exchange I signed up for this last year was for sexy_brilliance, so who am I to judge people who are actually making an effort?
